Air Care Alliance


The Air Care Alliance is a nationwide group of 37 organizations providing free air transportation by volunteer pilots and charitable aviation groups.


These groups are non-profit organization of pilots and other volunteers dedicated to serving the community by arranging free private air transportation for medical patients who cannot afford to utilize normal, commercial transportation. They also provide services to blood, organ and tissue banks.


Air Care Alliance was created by a group of people who believe in the benefit of volunteering and strive to keep all aspects of the organization on a volunteer basis. Their pilots help people by offering their airplanes and time to help through tough times.


It is imperative to their organization to continually recruit pilots with planes as well as other volunteers to help throughout the organization. It is also necessary to make medical facilities, health organizations, hospitals, and the general public aware of their capabilities.


Air Care Alliance will arrange free transportation by air for any legitimate, medically related need or purpose. This service is available to any individual, medical agency, facility, health care or service organization, or auxiliary thereof.

Angel Flights


Angel Flights has 21 groups serving the Heartland of America.


Following is an example of the type of patients Angel Flight, Inc., transports. Patients are allowed to be accompanied by one or two family members or support persons. Their patients are usually traveling for surgery, chemotherapy, dialysis, and other treatment. Angel Flight will also arrange transportation for those people who are financially distressed, or who are in a time-critical situation due to their medical condition.


They arrange service to those who meet the following guidelines:


  • Must be ambulatory.


  • Must have a personally signed letter from the physician.


  • Must not be able to afford available alternative air transportation.


  • Must have a legitimate medical need to avoid lengthy surface transportation.


  • Must be able to ride in small non-pressurized aircraft that is not equipped for medical emergencies.


  • Must have ground transportation to and from the airport and the treatment center.


  • Must sign a waiver form releasing Angel Flight, Inc. and volunteer pilots from liability.


  • Must be an outpatient.


Other Important Information:


  • Patients must understand that while they may carry their own oxygen, Angel Flight volunteers are not able to provide any medical service before, during or after the flight.


  • Patient must be physically fit to travel in a non-pressurized aircraft, without access to lavatory facilities, for the duration of the flight.


  • Passengers should be aware that baggage in excess of 50 pounds total may not be accommodated.


  • The pilot has the last say as to the completion of the mission.


  • The patient should have back-up transportation.
